What work experience do I need to apply for this role?
We don’t require any specific work experience, but it is helpful if you have previously worked with, or otherwise supported, children, young people or vulnerable adults, especially if it has involved managing challenging behaviour or environments or providing support to manage particularly complex needs. General experience in relevant sectors such as support or security can also be useful. It does not have to be paid work, you may have volunteered at a youth centre or as a scout leader or sports coach, for example, or you may have supported someone within your own family.
It is a strength of our teams that staff members join us having gained a variety of skills through a wide range of work and volunteering experience. However, it is the ‘life skills’ and personal qualities which remain key to success in this role.
We provide comprehensive training to teach/develop some of the specific skills and knowledge you will need for this job. But we cannot teach a positive, non-judgemental and caring attitude, resilience, patience, an ability to remain calm in a crisis, a genuine interest in working with vulnerable children and young people whose behaviour can reflect the challenges they face in their lives, or a commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for them whilst they are in your care. You will need to bring those qualities with you.
Do I need any qualifications to apply?
No formal qualifications are required.
Do you provide staff training? Is it paid?
Yes. We have a comprehensive staff training programme. On joining us you would complete our induction training and then complete a range of additional training and refresher/update training as necessary.
You are paid for attending in-person training.
Do you offer set shifts?
No. Although some tasks have set shift times, we provide a range of different services and the shift arrangements vary significantly depending on the task you are working on, with escorting tasks having only start times and no set finish time at all. We work in a variety of different settings across the country and provide both preplanned and emergency services responding to the requirements of commissioners and the individual needs of those in our care. The working hours and arrangements will depend on the task you work on, but will involve different start/finish times, working long days, overnight, consecutive shifts etc. There is no set pattern so you will need to be flexible.
Can I work set days/hours each week?
You can opt for a contract which allows you to tell us which days you are available to work but Wrixon Care operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year so it works best if your availability is flexible and fits with changing workstreams.
We support staff members to achieve the level of work they want, but it really is down to you. The more available, flexible and adaptable you are, the more options we have to offer work.
Can I work daytime only?
As we operate 24/365 providing a wide range of services nationwide, daytime-only availability is too restrictive. We need our staff members to be able to start or finish a task at any time of the day (or sometimes night), work into the night, start work very early in the day or at short notice, work overnight shifts and 24-hour/consecutive 24-hour shifts according to the requirements of the task.
We generally expect our staff to be able to work over the 24 hours of a day, the more restrictions you impose, the more limited the options we will have to allocate you work.
I have a commitment on Mondays. Will I be able to work around this?
Yes. You can opt for a contract which allows you to choose the days you are available to work but we would expect you to be available on a regular basis.
Would I have to work weekends?
Depending on the contract you join us on, but, as we operate over seven days of the week, there is an expectation that everyone will work some weekends.
I am only interested in the escorting part of the role. Should I still apply?
All of our escort and support staff cover all aspects of our work. You should only apply if you are happy to be involved in delivering the range of services we offer.
Can I work locally?
No. Wrixon Care operates nationwide. Tasks will begin and end in your local area, but you will travel all over the country on both escorting and support tasks.
Would I have to use my own car?
We have a range of fully equipped Company vehicles for use on all tasks, but you need to get to/from your local vehicle bases.
I have an automatic driving licence. Why can’t I apply?
Some of our company vehicles are manual, so you would not be eligible to drive them.
Would I be working alone or as part of a team?
The vast majority of our work involves working as part of a team, so it is very rare for our staff to work alone. But you will be working in different teams and your role in the team will vary.
All staff share responsibilities within the team so, for example, driving, report writing, liaising with other stakeholders and engaging in activities with those in our care as well as undertaking some day-to-day domestic tasks where appropriate.
If I am successful, could I start work immediately?
Before you start working with us, our robust pre-appointment checks and initial induction training course must be satisfactorily completed.
If you are offered a position with Wrixon Care, we will work with you to complete the screening process in advance so that you are able to take up your appointment immediately following satisfactory completion of the induction training.
